What Courses do we Offer in S3?

Physical Education - Games

If sport, teamwork, and competition inspire you - PE Games is the perfect fit! You’ll take part in a variety of team sports, developing your skills, tactics, and understanding of how to perform at your best. 

You’ll work both indoors and outdoors, building fitness, leadership and confidence as you train, play, and analyse performance. This course rewards hard work, respect, and determination - ideal if you love being active and want to take your game to the next level! 

Possible careers: PE Teacher, Sports Coach, Sports Physiotherapist, Fitness Instructor 

 

Physical Education - Aesthetics (Gymnastics & Dance)

Do you love to move, perform and express yourself through dance or gymnastics? In PE Aesthetics, you’ll develop strength, flexibility, and confidence while improving your performance in both artistic forms. 

You’ll learn how to refine your technique, understand the importance of discipline and teamwork, and showcase your skills through practical performances and written work. This course combines physical activity with creativity - perfect if you enjoy performing and pushing your limits! 

Possible careers: Dance Teacher, Personal Trainer, Sports Psychologist, Performer 

 

Hospitality - Practical Cookery

Love food? This is the perfect course to turn your passion for cooking into real-life skills! You’ll create a wide range of delicious dishes while learning about food hygiene, safety, nutrition, and presentation. You’ll also explore the world of hospitality - from restaurants to events - and understand how ingredients, organisation, and teamwork come together to create amazing meals. 

If you enjoy being creative in the kitchen, working practically, and learning skills that last a lifetime, this course is for you. 

Possible careers: Chef, Restauranteur, Food Critic, Event Caterer 

Fashion and Textile Technology

Step into the exciting world of fashion - where creativity meets style! In this course, you’ll design, create and bring your own ideas to life while exploring everything from modern streetwear to vintage trends. You’ll learn to use sewing machines and other professional tools to develop high-quality fashion and textile items. 

This hands-on course lets you express yourself through design while learning about how fashion connects with history, culture, and technology. Available at National 4 and 5, with the chance to progress to Higher Fashion and Textile Technology if you continue your studies. 


Possible careers: Fashion/Textile Designer, Garment Technologist, Fashion Marketer, Merchandiser 

Childcare 

If you enjoy working with children and want to make a difference in their lives, this course gives you the perfect start. You’ll explore how children grow, learn, and play - and discover what makes a positive and supportive learning environment. 

Through fun and practical activities, you’ll learn about children’s rights, family life, and the importance of play in early development. You’ll also build teamwork and research skills that prepare you for further study or work in childcare. 

Best of all, this course is the same as the School/College Partnership course - but taught right here in school! 

Possible careers: Nursery Teacher, Primary Teacher, Early Years Practitioner, Teaching Assistant 

 

What Courses do we Offer in S5/6?

Physical Education 

Push Yourself. Perform Your Best. 
If you’re passionate about sport, fitness, and understanding what helps athletes perform at their best, this course is for you. You’ll build advanced movement and performance skills while exploring the physical, mental, and social factors that impact performance. 

You’ll take part in three practical and three theory lessons each week, balancing hands-on sport with deeper learning about performance analysis. The course is assessed through a written exam (50%) and two practical performance events (50%) in different sports. 

Recommended for: Students who achieved an A or B in National 5 PE and English — or speak with PE staff if you’re new to the subject. 

Perfect for future: Personal Trainer, Sports Physiotherapist, PE Teacher 

 

Leadership through Sport  

Lead. Inspire. Make an Impact. 
This exciting course (worth 9 SCQF points) is all about developing your confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills through sport. You’ll take part in 4 practical sessions and 2 theory lessons each week, including working towards your NPA in Sports Development (equivalent to one Higher) delivered by Fife College. 

You’ll gain real experience by leading school clubs, running primary school sports events, and helping to organise inter-house competitions. By the end of the course, you’ll have not only boosted your coaching and leadership skills but also built a CV that stands out!

SQA Sport and Recreation Level 5

Get Active. Go Pro. 
If you enjoy being active and are thinking about a career in sport, health, or fitness, this hands-on course is a fantastic choice! Worth 24 SCQF points, you’ll develop the knowledge, confidence, and experience you need to take your first steps into the sports industry. 

You’ll have 4 practical and 2 theory lessons each week, covering: 

  • Work Placement: Gain real experience in a sports facility, learning about safety, equipment set-up, and customer care. 
  • Fitness: Build your own training plan and learn about anatomy and exercise science. 
  • Employability: Explore different sports careers and the skills employers look for. 
  • Games Coaching: Develop your coaching techniques across a variety of sports. 

This course gives you the perfect mix of practical experience and professional skills to kick-start your future in sport and recreation. 

Perfect for future: Events Manager, Sports Coach, Personal Trainer, Sports Development Officer

Hospitality

Love food? Want to learn skills that will last a lifetime? In Hospitality, you’ll dive into the world of cooking and discover what it takes to make great food - and a great impression! You’ll learn hands-on techniques by preparing a wide range of dishes while exploring key topics like food hygiene, kitchen safety, healthy eating, organisation, and how to use local, seasonal ingredients. 

This course is packed with practical cooking sessions (so good attendance is a must!) as well as written work to deepen your understanding of the hospitality industry.

Preparation for the Hospitality Industry (with Barista Skills)

Become the Expert Behind the Counter! 
Dream of running your own café, working in a bakery, or mastering the perfect coffee pour? This course gives you the inside scoop on what it’s like to work in the fast-paced world of hospitality. 

You’ll learn barista skills, explore the art of craft baking, and earn your REHIS Food Hygiene Certificate — a qualification recognised across the industry. Discover how to prepare and serve professional-standard drinks, use specialist equipment, and understand the importance of hygiene and allergens.
